Minister Lluka visits KEK, gets acquainted with its operations and challenges

Prishtina, 16.11.2017 – The Minister of Economic Development, Valdrin Lluka, accompanied by the Swiss Ambassador in Kosovo, Jean-Hubert Lebetme and his associates, visited the coal mine in villages Hade and Shipitulle, both thermal power plants of Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) and the location in which the development of the new thermal power plant Kosova e Re is planned. He was informed first hand by KEK managers on the corporation’s operations and challenges faced in the verge of the winter season.

Minister Lluka’s first stop was at the coal open-cast mines, where he received information on the work done in their development and difficulties related to the relocation of local population. The significance of this matter was underlined as new surfaces need to be opened for exploitation, due to their major impact on increasing security and stability of electricity supply for the country.

Further, Minister Lluka visited TPP Kosova A and B facilities and spoke to staff of these units to understand more on their generation capacities and work vested in ensuring stable energy generation.

Minister Lluka emphasized that stable energy supply is one of the main priorities of the sector, with direct influence on the lives of citizens and the country’s economic development.
