3.1 Richter scale earthquake registered 10km northwest of Gjakova

Prishtina, 20.03.2018 – Based on information from the Seismic Network, Kosovo Geological Survey and Euro-Mediterranean Seismic Center, and the numeric analysis of the Kosovo Seismology Network, on 20 March 2018, at 01:55 local time, our country was hit by an earthquake of 3.1 Richter scale magnitude, or IV grade Mercalli scale intensity.

The epicenter of this earthquake was 10km northwest of Gjakova, respectively at the following coordinates: 42.457 latitude and 20.407 longitude, with a hypocenter depth of 12km.

Due to the immaterial depth of its source, the earthquake was significantly felt by residents of Gjakova and Peja region.

So far, the Seismic Network and Kosovo Geological Survey do not possess data related to eventual damage around the epicenter area.
