Lluka: Establishment of an agricultural platform would affect export growth

Prishtina, 17.10.2018 – Minister of Economic Development Valdrin Lluka took part in the International Agro-business, Food and Beverages Fair AGROKOS, held in Prishtina. This is the 18th edition of the fair, attended by local producers and producers from the region and beyond. The fair has transformed into an important and traditional event, which, at the same time, serves as a connecting bridge between local and international businesses.

Minister Lluka said that the very fact that the fair is attended by a large number of local and international businesses proves the significance of this event and the commitment of the Government of Kosovo to support domestic producers in their scope and to facilitate doing business for them.

“We went through numerous challenges, moving from an entirely devastated system, through a phase of subsidies for primary production and collection points, and now to a phase of using various donors to support final product processing. However, this does not suffice if we wish to be competitive with EU countries,” said the Minister of MED, Valdrin Lluka.

Head of MED said that it is very important to invest in precise agriculture, which implies automatic productivity tools and usage of sensors to measure soil quality, which will result in yield enhancement and influence on rationalization of water use, and most importantly, on the diminished use of carious chemicals.

“The role of MED is to use the project with the WB to help farmers acquire skills in the information technology sphere, which would help them in the implementation of best practices in this sector,” Lluka underlined.

Similarly, Minister Lluka emphasized the need to establish an agricultural platform the perform the connectivity of farmers with producers and producers with salesmen, and the production of products for the international market, in order to develop exports and above all increase domestic consumption of local produce.
