The Energy Strategy Implementation Program approved
Prishtina, 08.09.2023 – The Government of the Republic of Kosovo, at the meeting held on 5 September 2023, unanimously approved the Energy Strategy Implementation Program.
The Kosovo Energy Strategy Implementation Program (ESIP) for the period 2022-2025 is based on the Energy Strategy of the Republic of Kosovo for the period 2022-2031. The fundamental methodology for preparing and monitoring this program is based on Law No. 05/L-081 on Energy and the Administrative Instruction of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo No. 07/2018 on Planning and Drafting Strategic Documents and Action Plans.
ESIP includes investment projects in all sectors through which reliable and uninterrupted energy supply, especially electricity, is ensured. It also encompasses important activities and projects that enable the implementation of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo’s guidelines for decarbonizing the energy sector based on Kosovo’s commitments to the Berlin Process and the Treaty Establishing the Energy Community, according to an approved decarbonization mapping.
Kosovo has committed to contributing to achieving decarbonization targets by 2030, including the share of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) at thirty-two percent (32%) of gross final energy consumption, the maximum level of Final Energy Consumption (FEC) and Renewable Energy Sources (RES) at one thousand eight hundred (1800) ktoe (Kiloton of oil equivalent), as well as the greenhouse gas limit of eight point ninety-five (8.95) million tons by 2030.
Furthermore, this program includes projects and activities of energy sector institutions, namely it includes projects and activities that commenced before or during 2022, projects and activities that commence and will be concluded during the period 2022-2025, as well as projects that started during the period 2022-2025 but will continue beyond 2025.
With the approval of the Kosovo Energy Strategy Implementation Program, all stakeholders will start its implementation, as stipulated in this program.
The preparation of the program involved all relevant institutions, and public discussions were conducted as required by legislation.
