Prishtina, 30 July 2026 – The Ministry of Economy and GIZ Kosovo signed today the Implementation Agreement for the “Kosovo Energy Project”, marking another important step in the partnership between the Republic of Kosovo and the Federal Republic of Germany.

This project aims to support Kosovo in fulfilling its obligations within the Energy Community through the advancement of energy efficiency measures and the expansion of the use of renewable energy sources. The project will contribute to improving the regulatory framework for investments in energy efficiency and self-consumption systems, developing financing mechanisms, strengthening support for investors, improving municipal planning, as well as promoting women’s participation in the energy sector. The project is financed by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany with up to EUR 4 million and co-financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark with about EUR 4.022 million.

In her speech on the occasion of the signing ceremony, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy, Ms. Leonita Shabani-Mullarama, emphasized that this agreement represents much more than just the beginning of the implementation of a new project.

“This agreement reflects a partnership built on mutual trust, shared values ​​and our shared vision for a more sustainable energy future for Kosovo. Our cooperation with GIZ and the Government of Germany and of Denmark have yielded significant results in advancing reforms in the energy sector and strengthening institutional capacities. We are convinced that this partnership will continue to bring concrete results in the upcoming years.”

The Ministry of Economy remains committed to continuing cooperation with international partners in implementing reforms that accelerate Kosovo’s energy transition, increase energy security, promote sustainable investments, and contribute to the fulfilment of national objectives and international obligations in the energy sector
