Prime Minister Kurti and Minister Rizvanolli visit Telecom of Kosovo
The Caretaker Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the Caretaker Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, visited the Telecom of Kosovo, where they received a firsthand briefing on the company’s current status, its positive financial performance, and the extent of its services across the entire territory of the country.
Prime Minister Kurti and Minister Rizvanolli were received by the Chief Executive Officer of Telecom of Kosovo, Burbuqe Hana, and the Chairman of the Board of Telecom.
During the visit, Prime Minister Kurti underlined the importance of ensuring complete nationwide coverage of telecommunications services, with particular focus on rural areas, roads and border regions, in service of the institutions, citizens and businesses of the Republic of Kosovo.
He noted that Vala of Kosovo is now fully Kosovo-owned, both in prefix and network, and as a public operator, it will engage in direct partnerships with various international operators without intermediaries.
The Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, highlighted that prior to the current government, the Telecom of Kosovo had accumulated losses of approximately €150 million. Over the past three years, up to the third quarter of this year, the company has generated around €21 million in profit, with projections indicating that profit could reach €25 million by year-end.
“I am extremely proud and pleased with the progress achieved at the Telecom of Kosovo”, Minister Rizvanolli stated, emphasizing that in the past, political interference, lack of investment and detrimental contracts had caused significant network damage. She specifically referred to the contract with Z-Mobile, which alone cost Kosovo Telecom about €62 million in arbitration and over €100 million in foregone profits.
The Chief Executive Officer of Kosovo Telecom, Burbuqe Hana, thanked Prime Minister Kurti and Minister Rizvanolli for their ongoing institutional support, emphasizing that the enterprise is being successfully managed and that the allocated loans are being repaid according to plan.
