The new laboratory for monitoring the quality of drinking water in Mitrovica is inaugurated, an investment of the Swiss Government

Mitrovica, 27.11.2025 The Regional Water Company “Mitrovica” has inaugurated the new laboratory for monitoring the quality of drinking water, an important investment that aims to improve the standards of control, safety and services for the citizens of the Mitrovica region.

This modern laboratory was established thanks to the support of the Integrated Water Resources Management Program in Kosovo (IWRM-K), an initiative co-designed and co-funded by the Government of Switzerland and the Government of Kosovo. The new equipment and improved infrastructure will enable more accurate, more efficient, and more reliable analyses of drinking water.

At the inauguration ceremony, on behalf of the Ministry of Economy, Ms. Vlora Tosuni, Acting Director of the Publicly Owned Enterprise Policy and Monitoring Unit, also participated, who assessed the importance of the project and the institutional partnership that made it possible.

“This laboratory represents a model of successful cooperation between local institutions and international partners. The result we see today is proof that well-oriented investments bring direct benefits for the community”, stated Ms. Tosuni.

She emphasized that such investments constitute a direct contribution to increasing operational efficiency, strengthening technical capacities, and improving transparency in public services.

“Laboratories of this kind increase the quality of monitoring, improve the reliability of analyses and reduce hazards to public health. For the citizens of Mitrovica, this investment means greater safety and higher standards in the supply of drinking water”, Tosuni said.

The inauguration of this laboratory marks an important step towards advancing the systems for monitoring water quality at the national level and represents an added guarantee for the protection of public health and the improvement of essential services for citizens.
