Caretaker Prime Minister Kurti and Caretaker Minister Rizvanolli visited the social housing buildings in Plemetin

Obiliq, 04.06.2025 – The Caretaker Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Caretaker Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, the Representative of the European Union in Kosovo, Johannes Madsen, the Caretaker Minister of Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi, the Caretaker Minister of the Ministry of Communities and Return, Nenad Rashiq, and the Mayor of Obiliq Municipality, Xhafer Gashi, visited the social housing buildings in Plemetin, Obiliq, where investments are under way to increase energy efficiency and improve living conditions for the residents of these buildings.

Work on these buildings includes insulating the roofs and external walls, replacing outdated doors and windows, installing efficient heating systems, introducing an intercom system and implementing fire-safety measures. As part of the additional support, investments are also being made in the water-supply system.

The project is implemented by the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund and supported by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo through a grant from the European Union (90 %) and co-financing from the respective municipalities (10 %).

On this occasion, Caretaker Prime Minister Kurti stated that a large number of citizens, mainly from non-majority communities, will have better living conditions following these investments.

“With the thermal insulation of the roof and walls, a much cleaner and more orderly indoor environment, the replacement of windows and doors, and new façades, all residents here, most of whom belong to non-majority communities, especially Roma and Ashkali, will gain dignified living conditions,” he said.

While Caretaker Minister Rizvanolli added that, thanks to these investments, energy savings are expected to reach up to 71 % in one building and up to 75 % in the other.

“After the investments, energy savings will ultimately be 71 % in one building and 75 % in the other, which means not only lower bills and expenses but also far greater comfort for the residents. I hope that, as a result of these investments, all these residents will get through next winter much more cheaply and easily,” she concluded.

The EU Office Representative in Kosovo, Madsen, expressed his satisfaction during the visit with the investments being made to improve citizens’ lives.

Work on these buildings is expected to be completed in August.

Within the framework of the energy-efficiency reform, the Government of Kosovo has so far supported:

  • 3,000 families with home insulation,
  • Over 40,000 families with efficient appliances and solar panels,
  • 125 public buildings, mainly schools and hospitals, have been renovated to improve living and working conditions for hundreds of thousands of citizens.

These renovations significantly improve the living, educational and healthcare conditions for thousands of citizens.
