First Meeting of the National Council for Economy and Investment
Prishtina, 20.02.2024 – Today, the first meeting of the National Council for Economy and Investment was held, attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, the Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade, Rozeta Hajdari, the Minister of Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi, the Deputy Minister of Economy, Getoar Mjeku, the Deputy Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, Hysen Durmishi, as well as representatives from public and private, local and international institutions.
Speaking about the goals of the Government of Kosovo for economic growth and sustain
nable economic development, Prime Minister Albin Kurti emphasized the commitment to build a strong platform for public-private dialogue, enabling the identification of opportunities and effective addressing of challenges, whereby an ambitious annual plan for 2024 has been developed, supported by the Independent Secretariat of the Council, financed by the Swiss SECO, and managed by EBRD in Kosovo.
Deputy Minister of Economy Getoar Mjeku highlighted during the meeting that last year, Kosovo prepared and has now approved in the first reading in the Assembly of Kosovo, the Law on Renewable Energy Sources. This law will make the installation of solar systems by consumers even more attractive, benefiting citizens, businesses, and the environment. Such investments are diverse, ranging from increasing energy efficiency to reducing pollution and energy bills.
Deputy Minister Mjeku also added that infrastructure projects will be implemented, including 950 MW of generating and energy storage capacities worth 1.2 billion euros in the medium term.
The annual plan for 2024 was presented and discussed at this meeting, which includes a series of activities aimed at encouraging investments and exports, as well as intensifying and deepening the dialogue between the government and the private sector. In this annual plan, there are three main events, in October and November 2024, in Kosovo, which shall offer valuable opportunities for promoting foreign direct investment and exports, as well as for all networking combinations: ‘Government-Government’, ‘Business-Government’, and ‘Business-Business’ (B2B).
