Beqaj informs Goldstein and Baker on the Donors’ Conference on Energy

Prishtina, 13 May 2013 – Minister of Economic Development, Besim Beqaj, received today in separate meetings Ellen Goldstein, Country Director and Regional Coordinator for Sountheast Europe and Central Asia, accompanied by Jan Peter Olters, World Bank Country Manager for Kosovo, and Jeffrey Baker, Director of the US Treasury Office for Europe and Eurasia, with whom he discussed on the recent developments in the country, with special emphasis on preparations for the “Donors’ Conference on Sustainable Energy for Kosovo,” which will be held tomorrow in Prishtina.

Minister Beqaj expressed his gratitude to Director Goldstein for the support the World Bank has given to the Donors’ Conference on Energy, and to the Kosovo energy sector in general.

Beqaj underlined the readiness of the Kosovo Government to implement energy projects, enhance the use of renewable energy sources and increase energy efficiency, with the aim of ensuring sustainable energy in Kosovo, in conformity with international standards and at affordable prices for the citizens, for what he received Goldstein’s support.

In the meeting with Jeffrey Baker, Director of the US Treasury Office for Europe and Eurasia, the head of MED informed the former on the preparations made for the Donors’ Conference, underlining the support USA has given to Kosovo in all spheres.

For his part, Baker reconfirmed the continuation of USA support for Kosovo’s economic development, while assessing that the Energy Conference represents a good opportunity for the presentation of Kosovo’s energy resources and investment possibilities.

Noteworthy, the meetings of Minister Beqaj with Mrs. Goldstein and Mr. Baker are held in the verge of the Donors’ Conference on Energy, in which they were invited to attend and give their contributions, as members of the senior management of institutions they represent.
