MEM discusses the challenges of the energy sector identified in the EC Progress Report 2009/ 2010

Prishtina, 5 November 2009 – The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) organized in its premises a meeting on the European Commission 2009 Kosovo Progress Report, to discuss on energy related matters and to address challenges and priorities for 2010.

The meeting was headed by the Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines, Dr. Tech. Blerim Rexha, whereas present in this meeting also were other energy sector stakeholders, such as: MEM, representatives of the Office of Prime Minister, KEK, KOSTT, and representatives from the District Heating.

At the occasion, the Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines, Dr. Tech. Blerim Rexha emphasized that 2009 marked a significant progress of the energy field in comparison to 2008.

Rexha also notified that MEM and the other energy sector stakeholders will remain seriously engaged to overcome during 2010 all challenges in order to achieve proper project implementation, as forecasted. “We have had greater progress in 2009 than in 2008. We have to overcome the challenges that lay ahead of us, especially when dealing with programs, strategies or studies”, said Deputy Minister Rexha. He also claimed that further intensification of efforts of all energy stakeholders is required to accomplish better progress, including closer cooperation with MEF, MTI and MLSW.

Rexha also assured all participants that MEM’s engagement will be serious and will support the fulfillment of all criteria set forth by the European Commission.
