Law on the Promotion of the Use of Renewable Energy Sources adopted
Prishtina, 05.04.2024 – Law on Promotion of the Use of Renewable Energy Sources was adopted with a majority of votes by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo.
With the adoption of the Law on RES, Kosovo distinguishes itself from the majority of states in the region by establishing a legal framework that prioritizes clean energy resources. This Law will make it possible to attract more investments by implementing ambitious goals outlined in the Energy Strategy 2022-2031.
The scope of this Law includes drafting energy policies and developing a regulatory framework to promote the use of Renewable Energy Sources in the Republic of Kosovo, including the promotion of competitive, efficient and transparent Support Schemes.
This Law will bring benefits to the private sector by introducing new concepts of consumer involvement in the energy sector and by defining procedures to be conducted competitively. In this way, all enterprises will be treated equally, benefiting from their competition, which leads to lower prices and affordable costs for citizens.
To fulfil the requirements and obligations arising from the Energy Community Treaty and transitioning towards clean energy, the Law on RES aims to increase the use of energy from Renewable Sources and co-generation in the electricity, heating and cooling, and transportation sectors, as well as enhancing supply security.
Other benefits of this Law include environmental protection, providing social and health benefits, as well as promoting equal employment opportunities in the energy sector.
