Kosovo to join the 7 billion euro Digital Europe Programme

Prishtina, 13.12.2023 – Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, has signed the Framework Agreement of the Digital Europe Programme, while on behalf of the European Commission, the agreement was signed by Roberto Viola, Directorate General of Communication, Networks, Content and Technology.

The Framework Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Kosovo enables Kosovo’s participation in the European Union’s Digital Europe Programme. This new Programme, established and financed by the European Union, aims to facilitate digital transformation, increase the use of digital technologies for businesses and citizens, thereby positively impacting economic development and creating new jobs.

Through Kosovo’s participation in this Programme, cooperation between the European Union and the Republic of Kosovo will be strengthened and further developed. The implementation of this agreement will be in accordance with the relevant legislation, following approval by the Government and the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo.

Businesses, public administration, and NGOs from the signatory countries of this agreement will have the opportunity to apply for projects related to specific areas such as artificial intelligence and advanced digital skills.

This Programme aims to enhance access to digitalization for citizens, businesses, and institutions, and through strategic grants, it will advance four areas: High-Performance Computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Advanced Digital Skills, and Accelerating best use of digital capacities and interoperability.

The Programme seeks to bring Western Balkan states closer to the economy and society of the EU, to support digitalization in general, and small and medium-sized enterprises, in particular.
