Prime Minister Kurti and Minister Rizvanolli visit social-housing buildings in Gjilan, where investments are being made in energy efficiency
Gjilan, 06.05.2025 – The Caretaker Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Caretaker Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, visited two social-housing buildings in the town of Gjilan, where a significant investment is being implemented to increase energy efficiency and improve the living conditions of the residents of these buildings.
The works in these buildings include insulating the roofs and external walls, replacing outdated doors and windows, installing efficient heating systems, installing the intercom system, and implementing fire-protection measures. The project is implemented by the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund, with financial support from the European Union and 10 % co-financing by the municipality.
“In Gjilan, we have come to see firsthand a transformation of citizens’ lives, from difficult conditions to a more dignified and warmer way of living. We are not only building stronger walls; we are building dignity, security, and hope for hundreds of citizens,” said Kurti.
In Gjilan, two social-housing buildings constructed in 2005 are being renovated, which for years lacked adequate insulation and experienced major energy losses. The total investment of EUR 432 560.60 will directly improve the living conditions of 53 families, eight of which are headed by women, encompassing more than 210 residents of Gjilan.
This intervention is part of a broader programme to renovate 25 social-housing buildings across Kosovo, valued at more than EUR 6 million, which is striving to ensure better living conditions for the most vulnerable communities, while saving energy and contributing to environmental protection.
Minister Rizvanolli emphasised that “Saving more than 80 % of energy by significantly reducing expenses and improving living conditions is not merely a technical matter, it is social, economic, and environmental justice”.
Within the framework of the energy-efficiency reform, the Government of Kosovo has supported so far:
• 3,000 families with home insulation,
• More than 40,000 families with efficient appliances and solar panels,
• 125 public buildings, mainly schools and hospitals, have been renovated to improve the living and working conditions of hundreds of thousands of citizens.
These renovations significantly improve living, educational, and health-service conditions for thousands of citizens.
