The Government approves decisions paving the way for two international agreements in the area of energy and ICT

Prishtina, 8 November 2023 – The Government of the Republic of Kosovo approved in today’s meeting decisions to initiate negotiations for the “KSV/024: Energy Transition and Climate Mitigation in Kosovo” Agreement with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and for the participation of the Republic of Kosovo in the European Union’s “Digital Europe Program” between the Republic of Kosovo, represented by the Ministry of Economy, and the European Union.

In the proposal for the approval of the initiative to negotiate the “KSV/024: Energy Transition and Climate Mitigation in Kosovo” Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kosovo represented by the Ministry of Economy and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, emphasized that this agreement amounts to 5.5 million Euro and provides for the improvement of financial mechanisms, strengthening of the legal framework, as well as the implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures. This project is expected to be implemented over a three-year period.

Furthermore, the Government approved the recommendation of the President of Kosovo to authorize the Minister of Economy to sign the Agreement for the participation of the Republic of Kosovo in the European Union’s “Digital Europe Program” between the Republic of Kosovo, represented by the Ministry of Economy, and the European Union.

Minister Rizvanolli stated that the initiative aims to enable the Republic of Kosovo to advance in four areas or specific objectives of this program through the EU strategic grants, such as high-performance computing resources, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced digital skills, and better utilization of digital capacities and interoperability.

The investment value of this program will be 7 billion Euro, which will be invested in European Union member states and the Western Balkans region to achieve the four objectives.
