Support for vulnerable families through investments in energy efficiency measures
Prishtina, 08.09.2026 – The Acting Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, together with the Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, visited today the Dragidella families in Pristina and Tatareviq in South Mitrovica, who have benefited from investments in energy efficiency.
The visit was also attended by representatives of the Government of Denmark, Mr. Poulsen and Ms. Klinken, the UNDP Resident Representative in Kosovo, Nuno Queiros, and the Managing Director of the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund (KEEF), Njomza Hoxha.
The investments are being made within the framework of the “Green Energy Future” project, financed by the Government of Denmark and implemented by UNDP, in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and the Kosovo Energy Agency. With a total investment value expected to reach 3 million euros, the project aims to improve the energy performance of the houses of vulnerable families and reduce energy consumption and costs.
Within the framework of this programme, investments in 51 houses of vulnerable families have already been completed. By the end of the year, it is intended to support a total of 192 families, while by 2028 the number of beneficiary families is expected to reach up to 280 throughout Kosovo.
During the visit to Magbule Dragidella’s family in Pristina, the works on the implementation of energy efficiency measures and their results in improving living conditions and reducing energy consumption were closely observed. The acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, emphasized the importance of investments in energy efficiency for directly improving the living conditions of citizens.
“Now the five members of the Dragidella family will have more decent living conditions, after the investments made in the thermal insulation of the facade and roof. This family has consumed over 85 megawatt-hours per year and will now have a decrease in consumption, but also better conditions inside, which means warmer during the winter and cooler during the summer, with a reduction in energy costs of around 74 percent,” said Prime Minister Kurti.
Acting Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, said that these investments are part of the just energy transition and that energy efficiency should bring direct benefits to citizens.
She added that the selection of beneficiary families was made with the aim of ensuring that support goes to those who need it most.
“This time we focused on the most vulnerable families, where all the beneficiaries are families that are on the social assistance scheme and those who are most in need have been selected.”
Similar measures have been implemented in the Tatareviq household in South Mitrovica, including thermal insulation of the external walls and the slab under the roof, as well as replacing the windows, terrace doors and entrance doors.
“Today we are here to visit one of the houses that is being renovated as part of the “Green Energy Future” programme. This is a program that combines energy and social policies, enabling families in need to directly benefit from investments in energy efficiency. In the family that we are visiting today, for example, energy consumption is expected to decrease by about 55 percent, which will have a significant impact on the family’s savings and energy bills. This is precisely the goal of this programme: to bring concrete results and better living conditions to the families that need it most.”
The “Green Energy Future” project is part of the efforts to accelerate the energy transition and increase energy efficiency in the residential sector, bringing tangible benefits to families and contributing to a more sustainable energy system.
Through such projects, the Ministry of Economy is placing energy efficiency directly at the service of citizens by supporting families in improving housing conditions, reducing energy consumption, and lowering energy costs.
