Deputy Minister Mjeku Participates in the Salzburg Summit

Salzburg, 27 September 2023 – Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Kosovo, Getoar Mjeku, accompanied by Kosovo’s Deputy Ambassador to Austria, Albinot Bimbashi, participated in the Europe Summit held in Salzburg, Austria.

In the panel discussion on the future of the Western Balkans, Deputy Minister Mjeku emphasized that the Declaration of Independence states that Kosovo is culturally, geographically, and historically in Europe, therefore our aspiration to become a part of the European Union is unwavering and this message Mjeku conveyed on a challenging day, while terrorists were attacking our Republic.

Furthermore, Mjeku spoke about the achievements of our Republic in strengthening democracy, the rule of law, and economic development, and he appreciated that our efforts are being acknowledged internationally, making Kosovo an attractive destination for investments in energy, technology, manufacturing industries, and other sectors.

During the Summit, Deputy Minister Mjeku met with the Chancellor of Austria, Karl Nehammer, and the Austrian Minister of Economy, Martin Kocher.

Mjeku expressed special gratitude to the host, Franz Schausberger, former Governor of Salzburg, and Benita Ferrero-Waldner, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, for their support to our country.

Mjeku highlighted that the most encouraging encounter was with Kosovar students, Arbër, Bestar, Egzona, and Krenare, who are pursuing postgraduate studies at the University of Salzburg.

In an interview with Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper, Mjeku recalled that German-speaking countries are Kosovo’s primary economic partners.
