Deputy Minister Mjeku Participates in the Mines Ministers Summit

Toronto, 07.03.2024 – Deputy Minister of Economy, Getoar Mjeku, participated in the International Mines Ministers Summit in Toronto, Canada.

Related to this year’s theme “Responsible Mining and the Energy Transition”, Deputy Minister Mjeku spoke about the commitment of the Republic of Kosovo to promote energy efficiency, circular economy, and environmental, social, and governance responsibility.

He emphasized that states should exchange experiences and perfect international standards in the mining sector while highlighting the need to prioritize trade with partner countries nurturing the same democratic values.

The opening remarks of the Summit were delivered by the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Canada, Jonathan Wilkinson, while the discussions were moderated by former minister Brian Tobin. The summit was attended by ministers and representatives from the European Union, the United States, Argentina, Australia, Finland, France, Ghana, Guyana, Germany, Kazakhstan, Chile, Mongolia, Norway, Peru, and other countries. Multinational corporations and non-governmental organizations also presented their observations on the environmental and social challenges in the mining sector.

The Mines Ministers Summit is organized annually by the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development, and the World Economic Forum.
