USAID will continue to support economic development in Kosovo

Prishtina, 04 June 2013 – The Minister of Economic Development, Fadil Ismajli, met today with the Head of USAID in Kosovo, Maureen Shauket, to discuss on economic development and the review of economic development strategies.

Minister Ismajli thanked Mrs. Shauket on the sport USAID has given and continues to give Kosovo, while informing her on MED’s basic future orientations and energy projects.

Mr. Ismajli reemphasized that MED is committed to further implementation of projects related to the development of new energy generation capacities, which represent a prerequisite for the country’s sustainable economic development, underlining that energy efficiency and utilization of renewable energy sources will be treated with special attention.

The meeting was also used to discuss on the inclusion of Kosovo youth in master study programs funded by USAID, in relation to which MED will soon present the needs for specific profiles for the country’s human resources, the professional capacity of which needs to be further advanced.

For her part, the Head of USAID in Kosovo, Maureen Shauket, underscored the development of support for Kosovo, including concrete energy projects aimed at the development of the said sector in conformity with international standards.

Noteworthy, USAID has continuously supported Kosovo’s energy sector in the process of KEK unbundling and the privatization of electricity distribution and supply functions (KEDS), while promising continuous support to projects related to energy efficiency and utilization of renewable energy sources.
