The Ministry of Economy held a consultation with civil society before the publication of the draft Energy Strategy 2022 – 2031

Prishtina, 27 May 2022 – The Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, together with representatives of the Cabinet and the Department of Energy at the ME, today held the last consultative meeting with representatives of civil society, before the draft Energy Strategy 2022 – 2031 will go for consultations within the Government and, thereupon, to public consultations.

During the discussion, Minister Rizvanolli and the representatives of the working groups presented five strategic and specific objectives of the strategy, which include:

1. Improving the sustainability and security of the power system;
2. Decarbonization and promotion of renewable energy;
3. Increasing energy efficiency;
4. Strengthening regional cooperation and market functioning; and
5. Consumer protection and empowerment.

Among other things, the Energy Strategy 2022 – 2031 is the first energy strategy which does not envisage new lignite; it envisages a carbon tax and ambitious targets for renewable energy, in particular solar and wind energy.

Further, during the meeting, the discussion was opened with representatives of civil society, who gave their contributions during the last year throughout the process of preparing this draft.

Comments and suggestions from civil society, as well as all stakeholders, will be welcomed during the public consultation phase, which will begin next week

The goals presented today, as presented by the Strategy itself, are focused on guaranteeing security of supply, affordability for the consumer, and the long-term commitment of the Republic of Kosovo towards decarbonization.
