The government is dedicated to advancing broadband infrastructure

Prishtina, 23 June 2015 – The Government of Kosovo is dedicated to providing all prerequisites for the development of broadband and high-speed internet infrastructure, said the Deputy-Minister of Economic Development, Besa Zogaj-Gashi in a workshop organized by the World Bank on “Development of broadband communication infrastructure, with focus on rural areas”.

Present in the workshop were also the director of the World Bank in Kosovo, Jan Peter Olters, sector representatives from WB and ARKEP, telecommunication and electronic communication companies and experts of the sphere.

“Through technical assistance, we have gained new knowledge on steps the Government of Republic of Kosovo will undertake to increase the scope of telecommunication services and to improve infrastructural service provision, while affecting the establishment of new jobs and environmental protection,” said Zogaj-Gashi.

Deputy-Minister of MED said that projects implemented by MED and World Bank are focused on the drafting of a broadband infrastructure in rural areas, with the aim of enhancing electronic communication, and ensuring efficient use of infrastructural resources between the telecommunications and energy sector, adding that the Government is satisfied with the progress achieved and with the cooperation with the World Bank.
