The Government asks for an acceleration to the New Kosovo Project
Prishtina, 11 June 2009 – Project Steering Committee of the Lignite Power Technical Assistance Project were convened in a consultative meeting. Chaired by Minister of Energy and Mining, Justina Shiroka – Pula, the meeting was also attended by the Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi and representatives of International Civilian Office, World Bank and USAID.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Thaçi pointed out the vital importance of the “New Kosova” Power Plant Project to the development of the country and asked from the key players involved in the project to accelerate its realization.
Thaçi said that the Kosovo Government is interested to move forward with this project and that further delays are intolerable.
Ministrja Pula expressed her gratitude to the Prime Minister for his support to the project and joined his call to accelerate the process. The Minister informed the attendees on the project development and the immediate need to build new generation capacities, as the country is facing with problems as a result of the depreciated existing generation energy.
Representatives of the World Bank, USAID, and European Commission have also supported the Government decision to move forward with the “New Kosova” Project, because of the increasing domestic demand for energy.
