Stavileci presents energy, mining and ICT investment opportunities at London forum

Prishtina, 03.11.2016 – A delegation of the Government of Kosovo, led by Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, followed by the Minister of Economic Development, Blerand Stavileci, participated at the Investment and Trade Forum for Kosovo UK and USA, held in London.
The purpose of the forum was to present investment opportunities which Kosovo has to offer for British investors and investors from other countries. The event is focused on key sectors of the economy in Kosovo such as: infrastructure, energy, financial services and ICT, providing a good opportunity for participants to discuss with senior officials of the Government on the relevant areas.
The forum, apart from line ministers of economy of Kosovo, was also attended by representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Cherie Blair, Deputy Chairperson of the International Council for Business Women Leadership, Developing Markets Associates (DMA), local and foreign companies operating in Kosovo and representatives of businesses.

Minister of Economic Development, Blerand Stavileci, in his presentation to the attendees focused on strategic areas for the country’s development; Energy, Mines and Information Technology.

Stavileci said that the Government considers ICT to be a sector of particular importance for sustainable development, given that 34% of the population is under the age of 18. He said that the development of ICT is a key priority for all strategic documents of Kosovo, and restated projects being implemented for the widening of digital infrastructure.

Speaking about the investment opportunities in the energy sector, Stavileci focused on the Kosova e Re project as the largest project in the sector, as well as projects for the distribution of heating in Kosovo, the implementation of central heating systems in municipalities, and the installation of new infrastructure for the supply of hot water to Pristina households by Termokos, which will decrease energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and will increase energy efficiency.

The head of MED used the opportunity provided by the forum to present investment opportunities in the mining sector, mining areas of special interest and the adoption of the Law on Trepca, which opens opportunities for investment in the company.

Stavileci said that it is necessary to perform geological research in all areas of interest, as a precondition of providing a realistic overview of metal and energy resources, creation of a database, promotion of investment in the sector and attraction of investment.
