Stavileci: Cybercrime strategy is coming soon

Prishtina, 18.01.2016 – The field of information technology and electronic communication is the most important promoter of economic development. Thus, MED is trying to give its merited space through promotion, adoption of strategic documents and other activities related to safety in this area, said the Minister Economic Development, Blerand Stavileci.

Stavileci made these comments today in the two-day international Conference on “Cyber security and Privacy” organized by MED in collaboration with the Regulatory Authority of Electronic and Postal Communications, Kosovo Police, Central Bank of Kosovo, etc., attended by representatives of international institutions, companies and experts.

“We see that today, even in developed economies, all sectors of the economy are being transformed into a new direction and dimension from what was in the past. Numerous surveys show that in the future over 50 percent of occupations will be in the field of ICT,” said Stavileci.

Regarding the risks of this field, Stavileci said that MED, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Agency for Protection of Personal Data, World Bank and researchers from the University of Oxford, respectively Cyber Center, is working on a report on cyber security, which will also provide recommendations and guidelines, and will be used as the basis for the new cyber security strategy.

Mentor Hoxhaj, chairman of the group organizing the conference, said that 30 cyber experts are present in the conference, who will demonstrate and test the security of Web pages and also inform us how to protect ourselves from cybercrime, respectively attacks on pages or data of any field.

Bedri Hamza, Governor of the Central Bank of Kosovo, said that cyber security requires a more advanced approach as it is not only a concern of information technology experts, but is a problem of institutions as a whole. According to him, this requires an active approach by most senior levels, and stated that protection of information is a matter of priority for modern institutions and they should have a strategy for cyber security and take appropriate actions.

The two day conference “Cyber security and privacy” was held in three sessions, with distinguished speakers on Cyber Security and Privacy, divided into four panels, addressing the following topics: Cybercrime, Financial Cyber Security, National Cyber Security, Privacy.
