Presentation of the Draft Priority List of Energy Sector Projects

Pristina, 25.04.2023 – The Ministry of Economy held a meeting with donors and development partners, where the Draft Priority List of the Energy Sector Projects was presented.

At this meeting, the Minister of Economy (ME), Artane Rizvanolli, highlighted that important steps have been taken in the energy sector over the past two years, including crisis management interventions, increasing efficiency and demand management as a way of crisis management, which is in line with our long-term goals of increasing energy efficiency and demand management in the future.

Through successful awareness raising campaigns undertaken by the Ministry of Economy and measures to subsidize energy saving and efficient equipment, a positive effect has been achieved not only in raising awareness for savings, but also in immediate results, where for the first time in 5 years, total household consumption has decreased by 4% on average.

The Minister also said that we have worked on many aspects to lay the foundations of the new energy sector, based on renewable energy sources and increased energy efficiency.

She emphasized that intensive steps are being taken to launch the first solar energy auction, with a capacity of 100 megawatts, which is being implemented with the assistance of USAID and is planned to be launched in May this year.

Central solar heating projects, solar park at KEK and the work being done for the MCC (Millennium Challenge Corporation) Project, which will come at a time when we will have new Renewable Energy Sources (RES) capacities where batteries will be necessary to maintain system balancing.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, representatives of accredited embassies to Prishtina, representatives of USAID, the EU, MCC, the World Bank, German GIZ, publicly-owned enterprises, other financial institutions, and other representatives of institutions related to the energy field.
