Prishtina, 19.05.2022 – The Ministry of Economy (ME) would like to inform the public opinion with respect to the situation created in the Geological Service of Kosovo on 17.05.202. According to the information received, this case is being handled by the competent authorities. Relationships between officials who are part of the civil service within the public administration are handled through the legislation on public officials. Misinformation or biased information do not serve the public’s correct information.

Therefore, we believe that the competent authorities will handle this case based on the legislation in force. We remain committed to implementing the necessary reforms in order to make the Geological Service of Kosovo functional, in the interest of development of the sector and the creation of new jobs.

The Ministry of Economy, within the framework of political priorities, has the mandate to develop reforms in the mining sector and specifically the geological service, in order for the mining sector to contribute to the economic development of the country.

In this respect, we have taken the following actions: (1) repealed the unlawful decision on the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer of the GSK; 2) initiated the procedure for the selection of the Chief Executive Officer; 3) we are in the process of addressing the findings of the Audit Report conducted in the GSK through the action plan; 4) we have taken actions for making the laboratory operational; 5) we have initiated procedures for drafting sub-legal acts in order to implement legislation in this area; and 6) we have initiated the process of drafting the new Regulation of the Geological Service of Kosovo and other activities planned pursuant to the Strategic and Operational Plan approved by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.
