Prishtina, 24.09.2019 – Minister of Economic Development Valdrin Lluka has signed a cooperation agreement with International Finance Corporation (IFC), advising the Government of Kosovo on the development of a 50 MW solar power plant.

During his stay in Vienna, Minister Lluka signed this agreement and stated that this project will generate economic growth and new jobs.

“I feel honoured to sign the first agreement in the history of the Republic of Kosovo with the Vice President of IFC (part of the World Bank), Georgina Baker, on the development of the 50MW solar energy project through a public-private partnership on a competitive basis. In addition to further enhancing the country’s economic activity by generating economic growth and new jobs, the development of such public-private partnership projects will directly affect the reduction of energy prices for consumers, and increased transparency”, stated Lluka.

This project also fulfils some of the obligations of the Republic of Kosovo towards European Union directives on diversification of electricity generators.

Upon receiving the mandate of the Ministry of Economic Development two years ago, Minister Lluka pledged to the citizens of Kosovo for the country’s economic development, creation of conditions for foreign direct investments, diversification of energy resources, and promotion of clean energy with the aim of covering the need for domestic consumption, namely reducing imports and interrupting business losses caused by irregular power supply.
