Minister Lluka informs Commissioner Mariya Gabriel on MED projects

Prishtina, 12.10.2018 – Minister of Economic Development Valdrin Lluka, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Enver Hoxhaj and Minister Besim Beqaj, met today with the EU Commissioner for Digital Economy and Societies, Mariya Gabriel.

Minister Lluka informed Commissioner Gabriel on steps undertaken by the ministry he heads in the sector of information and communication technology, on advancement made in the sphere of information technology and projects implemented to date and those currently under implementation.

“Kosovo Digital Economy Project was signed by the World Bank and approved by the parliament last month, while its implementation is envisaged to start on 15 November of this year. This project aims to cover 99% of the Kosovo territory with 100mbps internet,” said Minister Lluka.

The head of MED also informed EU Commissioner Gabriel on the Technological Park project (Tech Park), the activation of which is expected in June 2019, as well as on the support provided to youth.

Ministry of Economic Development is working to assist the youth, and in this regard the Ministry of Economic Development has equipped 65 secondary schools with innovative equipment, offering them an opportunity to express their creativity and expand their innovative knowledge.

Similarly, Minister Lluka spoke on IPA II projects, in which MED applied with the domestic market development project, aiming to digitalize small and medium enterprises.

Commissioner Gabriel expressed her content with the work of the Ministry of Economic Development, while Minister Lluka thanked her for the visit which shows EU’s dedication and support for Kosovo’s Digital Agenda.
