Minister Kuçi meets the actors of the sector after the energy independence; they discuss about the new generation capacities

Prishtina, 06.01.2021 – The Minister of Economy and Environment, Blerim Kuçi held the first meeting for 2021 with the actors of the energy sector: Kosovo Energy Corporation, Energy Regulatory Office, Kosovo Electricity Transmission System Operator, KEDS and KESCO.

This was the first meeting between these actors after Kosovo’s energy independence, as a result of the Connection Agreement between KOSTT and the European Transmission Network ENTSO-E.

Minister Blerim Kuçi expressed his gratitude to each and every one of them for the work done during the transition period 14-31 December 2020, where it was proven to Swissgrid that Kosovo is capable of operating in a Joint Regulatory Area – Kosovo-Albania.

This agreement has many benefits for Kosovo which have only just begun to be felt, according to the Chief Executive of KOSTT, Mustafë Hasani.

“Kosovo is already an equal partner with other transmission networks in Europe, and we also operate as a Joint Regulatory Area – Kosovo-Albania, and we have started collecting revenues from transit energy, which were previously received from the Serbian operator,” said Mustafa.

On the other hand, the Chief Executive Officer of KEC, Luigj Imeri, showed that on the last day of the transition phase, on 31 December 2020, there was a defect in one of the blocks of KEC, but it was avoided very quickly and in cooperation with KOSTT, they have stabilized the electricity that goes to consumers.

Compared to the night of the new year 2019-2020, this new year 2020-2021, according to Bujar Jupaj from KEDS, everything has been more stable thanks to the mild weather and the readiness of the teams on the ground.

Petrit Pepaj, Director of ERO, also praised the work of all links that enable the supply of electricity, emphasizing that Kosovo is late in installing new generation capacity.

In the end, Minister Blerim Kuçi, referring to the speech of the director of ERO, spoke about the new generation capacities.

“We are doing good as regards the generative capacities from renewable energy, but we have energy stability only from the generation through coal, our natural wealth. This has proven to be even safer during this time when we had the transitional phase of operation as independent, and that we had a blockade of the transmission lines with Serbia,” said Minister Kuçi at the end of the meeting, expressing his gratitude to each of the participants, but also all their support staff.
