Minister Kuçi in a special meeting with Deputy Secretary of U.S Department of Energy, Mathew Zais

 

Prishtina, 21.09.2020 – The Minister of Economy and Environment, Blerim Kuçi attended the bilateral meeting with the US Government delegation, led by the Special Envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Richard Grenell, together with the Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) Adam Boehler, USAID’s Representative, Chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM), and other senior government officials from the US Departments of Energy and Commerce.

 

In the margins of the meeting between the two delegations, Minister Kuçi met with Deputy Secretary of Energy at the State Department, Matthew Zais.

 

The purpose of the meeting with Mr. Zais was to receive the letter from the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy, Dan Brouillette. The letter announces that the work with U.S experts, who will work on the feasibility study of Ujmani Lake as part of the September 4 Agreement in Washington, will be intensified in coming months.

 

In this meeting, among other things, was also discussed about the new Energy Strategy in Kosovo, the modalities of moving forward, and challenges faced by Kosovo in this sector. These challenges relate to security of supply and the possibility of diversifying generation sources.

 

In addition to the harmonization of further steps and mutual cooperation, Kuçi and Zais expressed their satisfaction that there is now a financial support instrument, such as the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).

 

Minister Blerim Kuçi, among others, presented the Deputy Secretary of U.S Department of Energy with the framework on which the new Energy Strategy will be built, based on Renewable Energy Sources, Lignite Resources, Gas Resources and the application of energy efficient measures.

 

In conclusion, Minister Kuçi, in addition to offering full cooperation for issues emerging from the September 4 Agreement in Washington, also asked for support in the implementation of the new energy strategy framework in Kosovo.
