Minister Kuçi gathers the operational group for Kosovo’s Energy Independence to be successful

Prishtina, 14.12.2020 – The Minister of Economy and Environment, Blerim Kuçi gathered today in a joint meeting all local actors of electricity, as an operational group consisting of MEA, Office of the Prime Minister, KEC, ERO, KOSTT, KEDS and KesCo.

The motive of this meeting was the joint mobilization for safe electricity supply. As of today, 14 December 2020, the Kosovo electricity Transmission, System and Market Operator operates as an independent and as joint regulatory area with Albania.

In addition to congratulating all actors for this achievement, Minister Kuçi emphasized that the testing phase until 31 December should have full focus and asked the actors for maximum commitment during this period.

“This energy independence is a very high achievement and makes us very proud. However, we must know that we also have obligations, so possible mistakes in the process must be avoided.

We must also be vigilant, given the obstructions we are facing from Serbia’s transmission network operator. “Kosovo has communicated with some of the neighbouring countries, in order to increase cooperation in this testing phase”, said Kuçi, adding that international support has been very important in these moments.

“A special thank you goes to the European Commission, the United States of America and in particular the German state, for their continued assistance in this process,” stated the Minister.
This morning, Minister Blerim Kuçi together with Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti visited KOSTT, getting acquainted with the work and the operation already independent.
