Prishtina, 17.07.2018 – The Government of Kosovo is granting the necessary priority to the issue of wastewater treatment and investments made in this sector aim to ensure the treatment of 80% of wastewaters, said the Minister of Economic Development, Valdrin Lluka.

Head of MED made these comments during the inauguration ceremony of the wastewater treatment plant in village Mramor, in Prishtina municipality. Present in the event were the Deputy Mayor of Prishtina, Selim Pacolli, Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Prishtina, Ivo Silhavy, RWC Prishtina Chief Executive Officer, etc.

Speaking on investments in this sector, Minister Lluka said that the cornerstones for the construction of wastewater treatment plants was already placed recently in Gjakova and earlier in Prizren, and that the cornerstone of a similar plant will be soon placed in Peja.

“In Prishtina we are working on a similar project, and as of last week we’ve approved the project in Ferizaj and will approve in the upcoming weeks the project for Mitrovica and Gjilan. I believe that all these larger centers will have wastewater treatment plants and the country will be able to treat around 80 percent of all Kosovo wastewaters,” he said.

According to him, the projects are of extraordinary significance as they cover villages and cities, and will prevent further discharge of wastewaters into lakes.

For his part, Deputy-Mayor of Prishtina, Selim Pacolli, said that the assistance of the Czech Republic in such projects is more than welcome, while thanking the Czech people for supporting this project of great significance for Prishtina residents.

Ambassador of Czech Republic, Ivo Silhavy, assessed that this is an important project for the potable water supplied to Kosovo citizens and expressed his content that the Government of Czech Republic was able to help Kosovo with one such project.

The Chief Executive Officer of RWC Prishtina, Ilir Abdullahu, said that this is an advanced high tech plant, and the second after the Harilaq plant.

Otherwise, the Mramor plant in Prishtina is an investment of the Czech Republic, reaching the value of 700 thousand euro.
