Lluka gives notice of increased transparency in obtaining RES licenses
Prishtina, 19.09.2018 – Minister of Economic Development Valdrin Lluka notified the public that the Ministry he heads has undertaken all measures to ensure that licenses for investments in Renewable Energy Sources are granted in an open and transparent manner, by means of public auction, to avoid problems caused by licenses with waiting lists.
Head of MED made these comments during the opening ceremony for the third ‘Green Festival’ held in the 1 Tetory hall in Prishtina, attended by the Acting Deputy Director of the USAID Mission, Christina Davis, Swedish Ambassador in Prishtina, Karin Hernmarck Ahliny, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands, Gerrie Willems, GIZ Director for Kosovo and Macedonia, David Oberhuber, Chief Executive Officer of the Kosovo Producers’ Club, Astrit Panxha, and other business representatives. Minister Lluka said on this occasion that MED aims to transfer 100-120 MW licenses from hydro to solar and wind-powered energy, bearing in mind that there is a greater potential of both foreign and local investors for this type of energy source.
On the other hand, Christina Davis, Acting Deputy-Director of the USAID Mission, said that organization of this festival in the upcoming years should be sought as well, as this year’s presence has doubled that of last year.
Swedish Ambassador in Prishtina, Karin Hernmarck Ahliny, said by 2020 the private sector should have better access to energy, and that investments should be made in this aspect.
Gerrie Willems, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Prishtina, said that Kosovo should follow the Dutch example, where a large proportion of energy is produced from wind.
Also, David Oberhuber, GIZ Director for Kosovo and Macedonia, said that institutions that invest in energy efficiency should strive for greater cooperation between themselves.
Astrit Panxha, the Chief Executive Officer of the Kosovo Producers’ Club, said that this festival should educate citizens on how to use energy and also demonstrate the increased number of parties interested to invest in this sphere.
This is the third edition of the ‘Green Festival’, which promotes Kosovo’s green businesses and increases awareness and interest in recycling, renewable energy and energy efficiency.
