Kosovo will soon have a National Development Strategy

Prishtina, 17.06.2015 – The Government of Kosovo, as part of the overall package of reforms, is focused in reforming the legislation on doing business, to avoid excessive bureaucracy and ensure a faster economic development at the local level, said the Deputy Economic Development Minister, Besa Zogaj-Gashi.

Deputy Minister Gashi-Zogaj made these comments today at a conference on the subject “Pristina, an opportunity not being seized”, organized by the REA Prishtina, to discuss on the current socio-economic situation in Prishtina, and the consequences, attended by Prishtina municipal officials, business associations and the civil society.

“For the first time Kosovo will have a National Development Strategy, initiated by the Government, which will contain national strategic priorities, to serve as guidelines for the development of measures and implementation of development actions by institutions “, she added.

According to her, in addition to beginning works on the establishment of the Development Fund, taking the initiative for the establishment of the Fund to support companies in the Information Technology Sector and Innovation, we are considering possibilities and modalities to increase energy efficiency, where the main beneficiaries will mainly be small and medium enterprises.

Deputy Minister Zogaj-Gashi said that possibilities to finance local priorities are not only limited to tax revenues, but rather there are other possibilities, such as modalities of public-private partnerships, opportunities for financing priorities and projects of local authorities through loans.

Finally, the Deputy Minister said that defining goals and objectives requires a close collaboration with all stakeholders, citizens, business communities, and local and central authorities.
