Kosovo and Albania together can address energy issues

Prishtina, 20 February 2012 – Minister of Economic Development, Besim Beqaj, met today with Albanian Ambassador in Prishtinë, Islam Lauka, and discussed on the recent developments in the country and the region, with special emphasis in the energy situation.

Minister Beqaj and the Albanian Diplomat discussed on the energy situation in Kosovo and Albania after the suspension of electricity exports by regional countries as a result of an increased demand and problems in supply.

On this occasion, Minister Beqaj highlighted the need for mutual assistance between the two countries in order to tackle electricity shortages, taking into account that energy systems of Kosovo and Albania are complementary of each other.

Economic Development Minister said that the Republic of Kosovo has not enforced restrictions in electricity exports, and highlighted the need for exchanges in line with the demand and the capacities of both countries.

Minister Beqaj restated that Kosovo’s focus remains enhancing cooperation with Albanian in all areas, and also stressed the need to advance energy systems in Kosovo and Albania.
