First working meeting on the drafting of the National Energy and Climate Plan 2021-2030 held today

Prishtina, 06.12.2018 – The first working meeting on the inception of the drafting process for the National Plan on Energy and Climate 2021-2030. This plan is based on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers of the Energy Community, adopted in January of this year. Kosovo is a contractual party of the Energy Community.

The meeting was attended by representatives from MED, SPO/OPM, MESP, MF, MI, MEI, UP, ERO, KOSTT, KCC and civil society. During the meeting, representatives of MED and MESP provided information on the process being conducted under the Energy Community, in relation to the definition of new energy efficiency targets, renewable energy sources and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as the stances of these two institutions regarding the very important process of establishing new energy and climate change policies in the Energy Community, as per the EU policies which are currently under their final adoption phase.

According to recommendations of the Council of Ministers of the Energy Community, the plan will be based on 5 dimensions: Energy Security, Internal Energy Market, Energy Efficiency, De-carbonization, Research, Innovation and Competition.

Additionally, as per the dynamics planned by the Energy Community Secretariat, energy and climate plans are to be drafted and adopted by all treaty parties by end-2020.
