EU countries and the Western Balkans sign the agreement for reduction of data roaming charges

Tirana, 07.12.2022 – At the EU-Western Balkans Summit, held yesterday in Tirana, the agreement for reduction of data roaming charges between the European Union countries and the Western Balkans was signed.

The agreement was signed in the presence of the six leaders of the Western Balkans and shall enter into force on October 1, 2023.

On behalf of the CEO of Telecom of Kosovo, this agreement was signed by the CEO of Telecom of Kosovo, Burbuqe Hana.

This agreement guarantees the reduction of data roaming charges, aiming to approximate them by 2027 with the national charges.

The purpose of the agreement is to support movement and facilitate communication between citizens and businesses of the EU and the Western Balkans.

Benefits from this will be numerous, as in addition to the reduction of data roaming charges for citizens, the operating costs of businesses will also be reduced, thus promoting business activity across borders.

Moreover, this agreement is peculiar since it was made on voluntary basis between telecommunication operators, as a result of strong commitment of the EU and the telecommunications operators of the Western Balkans, with the support of the European Commission, the Regional Cooperation Council, as well as commitment of regional authorities.
