Call to save water and increase collection

Prishtina, 14.01.2014 – The Minister of Economic Development, Fadil Ismajli, and his associates had a working meeting with the Board of Directors and the management of the Regional Water Supply Company “Prishtina”, to discuss on the recent developments in this company and challenges it currently faces.

On this occasion, Minister Ismajly reiterated the support of MED for POEs with the aim of improving services to the citizens. Representatives of the RWC “Prishtina” stated that they have undertaken all measures to face with any possible issue which arise as a result of the drop of the level of Badovc and Batllava lakes.

Head of the POE Policy and Monitoring Unit in MED, Ramadan Sejdiu, and CEO of RWC “Prishtina”, Gjelosh Vataj, in a joint conference, called the citizens to save water, and informed the public that they are monitoring the situation.

“In the meeting with heads of RWC “Prishtina” we discussed on the challenges this company cases, difficulties in collection, losses of water, as well as difficulties of the company in supplying citizens with water in the lack of precipitation”, said Sejdiu.

He also added that they discussed on the focus of development and the implementation of a new project for the construction of a water plant in Shkabaj.

Gjelosh Vataj, Chief Executive Officer in RWC “Prishtina” said that this company will do the outmost to ensure sufficient water supply for all eight municipalities, and that as of 2012 they are operating without losses.

Vataj called all consumers to save water and pay their bills as this has a direct impact in the quality of service, and added that there are no problems in water supply in 2014 as there are reserves for an additional 3 to 4 months. However, in the lack of precipitation this year, we have concerns for 2015.
