Beqaj: Pakistan interested in economic cooperation

Prishtina, 20 March 2013 – The Minister of Economic Development Besim Beqaj met today with the Pakistani Ambassador in Ankara, Muhammad Haroon Shaukat, accompanied by the General Consul in Istanbul, Yousuf Junaid, and the Media Attaché in Ankara, Abdul Akbar.

The meeting was used to discuss on the general economic situation in Kosovo and on cooperation between the two countries in this sphere. Minister Beqaj used the occasion to state that relations with Pakistan are being developed on the right path of cooperation, which is significant for the countries’ economies.

“Pakistan is a country with which we have good relations and which has expressed its interest to cooperate in the sphere of economy, and we find such cooperation to be of great significance,” said Beqaj.

For his part, Ambassador Muhammad Haroon informed the Minister of a visit of Pakistani businessmen delegation to Kosovo, in order to identify the sectors of potential cooperation between two countries.

“Pakistan is interested for cooperation with Kosovo in the sphere of textile and leather processing, while we wish to identify the sectors in which both countries can cooperate in the future,” said Ambassador Haroon.

Minister Beqaj and Ambassador Haroon used the occasion to discuss on the facilitation of doing business between two countries, and to this end, the parties agreed to execute a memorandum of economic cooperation.
