Agreement reached with Trepça strikers, strike suspended

Prishtina, 13.07.2018 – Minister of Economic Development Valdrin Lluka, accompanied by Shyqeri Sadiku, President of the Union of Trepça Miners and of the Strike Council, signed today a six-point agreement, which marks the first step in the treatment of all miner demands and suspends the miner strike started five days ago in Stanterg.

The meeting lasted over five hours and was chaired by Minister Lluka, and attended by Gazmend Abrashi, Advisor to the Prime Minister, Shyqeri Sadiku, President of Miners’ Union and Strike Council, accompanied by three other members of this body and Miftar Hyseni Acting CEO of Trepca Enterprise.

After a substantial and constructive debate on the demands, which are mostly related to the approval and contents of the Draft-Statute of Trepca J.S.C., participants agreed on steps to be undertaken in order to overcome the current situation in Trepca and suspend the miners’ strike.

Participants in the meeting agreed in full with the proposal of the current Trepca management for the Government to decide that Zjaca source is removed from the list of zones of special interest; to establish an inter-institutional group of experts, which is to provide the proposal to include under Trepca the feasible assets that are currently not included in the draft-Statute of the company, and to establish a working group that offers solutions for social demands of the miners, which shall be treated in a special law.

According to the Agreement, working and experts groups will be established no later than Friday, 24 July 2018.

Upon signature of this agreement, the Trepca Miners’ Strike Council agreed to suspend the strike for three months.
