A meeting between ME, WSRA and RWCs, analyzing the performance of Regional Water Companies

Prishtina, 05.07.2023 – Intending to improve performance, increase own-source investment, and reduce water losses, at the invitation of the Publicly-Owned Enterprises Policy and Monitoring Unit (POEPMU) and its Head, Valon Prebreza, a meeting was held with the Chairpersons of the Boards of the Regional Water Companies (RWCs) and CEOs to compare the performance of these RWCs for 2022 and the first quarter of 2023.

The meeting was also organized to achieve the goals set by the Water Service Regulatory Authority (WSRA).

On this occasion, the Head of POEPMU, Valon Prebreza, requested the attendees to treat the goals set by WSRU earnestly, reflecting this in own-source investments in infrastructure, reduction of water losses, including the establishment of a task force to identify illegal connections in the water supply network, creating pilot water measurement zones and consequently reducing water losses.

Prebreza also urged the Heads of RWCs to improve the performance of the enterprises and treat the goals set by WSRU earnestly.

During the meeting, attention was given to accuracy in reported data on the performance indicators of RWCs, agreeing to increase the level of responsibility towards the obligations of the Heads of RWCs, focusing on reducing operating expenses, increasing revenues, and assessing the assets owned by these RWCs.

On this occasion, Hajrie Morina, the Director of the Water Service Regulatory Authority, requested the participants to focus on reducing technical and commercial water losses and increasing investments in infrastructure and capital investments, which would further enhance the performance in serving the citizens.

On the other hand, the Heads of RWCs pledged to take earnestly all the requirements that emerged from this meeting, including the establishment of task forces to reduce technical and commercial water losses.
