12 roads in Ferizaj benefit from efficient lighting

Prishtina, 10 December 2011 – As part of its engagements, the Ministry of Economic Development is paying special significance to projects aiming at the promotion of energy efficiency, which improves security of supply of electricity, said Deputy Minister of Economic Development Ramadan Hasani.

These comments were made yesterday in Ferizaj by Hasani, where accompanied by the Mayor of Ferizaj Bajrush Xhemajli and the GIZ representative he inaugurated the efficient lighting project in 12 roads of this town.

Deputy Minister Hasani said that this project is part of the project titled “Implementation of Energy Efficiency Measures in Public Institutions”, envisaged by the National Energy Efficiency Plan, in accordance with EU and EnTC requirements.

He informed all present in the event that the total value of this project in Ferizaj Municipality is 64 thousand euro, of which 54 thousand are funded by MED, 5 thousand by Ferizaj Municipality and 5 thousand by GIZ.

On his part, the Mayor of Ferizaj, Bajrush Xhemajli, expressed his gratitude to MED for this significant investment, which will directly impact the lives of citizens and will result in electricity savings.

Xhemajli said that the annual energy savings to incur through this project alone amount to 19 thousand euro, while adding that projects aiming to improve energy efficiency will continue to be implemented in the future.

Further, GIZ’s representative expressed his content with the implementation of the energy efficiency project, whereas he underlined the good cooperation that GIZ has with Kosovo’s local and central authorities

Otherwise, the efficient lighting project represents part of the biannual project titled “Implementation of Energy Efficiency Measures in Public Institutions”, which covers the municipalities of Prishtina, Gjilan, Prizren, Mitrovica, Ferizaj, Podujeva and is co-funded by MED, municipalities and GIZ.
