Kosovo committed to promoting clean energy

 Prishtina, 11.02.2022 – The Partnership for Transatlantic Energy and Climate Cooperation (P-TECC) Initiative and the Working Group on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy held a virtual meeting.
 
In this meeting, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo was represented by the Deputy Minister of Economy, Mentor Arifaj, who said that the Government of Kosovo is committed to work towards energy diversification of the country and maintaining security of energy supply, by promoting clean energy.
 
During his speech, Arifaj also stressed that Kosovo is drafting the new National Energy Strategy 2022-2031, which ensures a fair energy transition. He also announced that the new Law on Renewable Energy is being worked on, while the Energy Efficiency (EE) Fund is undergoing major reforms to be implemented in the household sector, as so far energy efficiency measures have been implemented only for the public sector.
 
Arifaj said that Kosovo is also a signatory of the Energy Community Treaty, where the focus of the Energy Community is to improve the integration of energy markets in the region, the transformation of systems, following policies and developments within the European Union.
 
“As part of this treaty, Kosovo is committed to implementing European legislation, including objectives in the field of renewable energy, energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions”, said Arifaj.
 
The meeting was attended by representatives from the United States of America, ministers of European countries, including countries in the region.
