Prishtina, 21.12.2021 – Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, together with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, paid a visit to the Independent Commission for Mines and Minerals (ICMM).

During the meeting with the Chairperson of the Board, Selvete Grajçevci – Pllana, and other members of the Board, it was discussed the importance and role of the mine sector in the country.

Prime Minister Kurti stated that the government remains committed to ensuring a sustainable development of the country and mining sector, which has historically proved to be an important sector for economic development of the country.

Minister Rizvanolli pointed out that in addition to the electricity generation, the mineral resources of Kosovo constitute a potential even for the market economy and increasing the socio-economic welfare.

During the meeting it was also pointed out that in addition to the strengthening and development of this sector by developing the adequate legal framework, the mining sector requires further commitment to ensure adequate conditions for potential investments and international cooperation in the field of mining.

The discussion also included the challenges faced in this sector and the need to improve technology, build professional capacities, carry out new researches for mineral resources identification, develop the processing industry, as well as to improve workplace safety.
