Attracting investments in the mining sector, a priority of the Government of Kosovo

 

Prishtina, 08.10.2020 – At the University of Mitrovica “Isa Boletini” (UMIB), the two-day conference entitled “The role of geosciences in sustainable development” has started today, which is being attended by researchers from universities in Kosovo, as well as researchers from the region and Europe.

 

The conference was virtually greeted by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Environment, Muharrem Svarqa, and representatives from Finland, Croatia, Canada, Albania, who said that Kosovo is rich in mineral resources as one of the most important sectors, that is considered a priority not only today, but it has been a pillar of economic development also in the past.

 

“The Ministry of Economy and Environment, within the responsibilities and competencies it has for the mining sector, has drafted a legal framework; policies and strategic documents for research and use of mineral resources have also been drafted according to applicable rules and standards, but nevertheless we face challenges. Therefore, I take this opportunity to ask all of you for mobilization in capacity building in this sector”, said Deputy Minister Svarqa.

 

The participants described this conference as an event which will contribute to the promotion of the mining sector, exchange of technological knowledge and experiences of this sector.

 

This conference has been organized by the University of Mitrovica ‘Isa Boletini” – Faculty of Geosciences, Ministry of Economy and Environment – Department of Mines, Geological Service of Kosovo, and the Independent Commission for Mines and Minerals.
