Kosovo and Switzerland sign a EUR 6 million Agreement for the Gjakova District Heating

 

Prishtina, 28 August 2020 – Minister of Economy and Environment, Blerim Kuçi together with the Ambassador of Switzerland in Kosovo, Thomas Kolly and the Mayor of Gjakova, Ardian Gjini, have signed an agreement to support the project for Improving the Performance of the new District Heating in Gjakova.

 

The signing of this agreement aims to rehabilitate the heating network, improve the energy efficiency of distribution, and will also provide heating and hot water service for the hospital of Gjakova “Isa Grezda”, and through this project, the connection to the heating network for public institutions will be done as well.

 

“It is one of the most important projects in Kosovo which will be funded by the Swiss government with EUR 5.5 million and the municipality of Gjakova in the amount of EUR 500 thousand, so we are grateful to the Swiss government for this project and other projects which are in progress”, said the Minister of MEE, Blerim Kuçi.

 

While on his part, the Swiss Ambassador to Kosovo, Thomas Kolly, stated that this is a large project, of multiple importance that has a positive effect on reducing CO2 emissions which will affect the well-being of all citizens of the municipality of Gjakova by improving air quality.

 

“It is a pleasure to be here with you, at the first event as Swiss Ambassador to Kosovo. It is a very good project and it is an example project that should be followed in other projects”, said Ambassador Kolly.

 

Meanwhile, the mayor of Gjakova, Ardian Gjini, stated that the new biomass heating plant of Gjakova is one of the best projects that have happened in Kosovo in the field of energy, through which we will have the expansion of the network in the north of the city and the expansion of the network in the hospital of Gjakova “Isa Grezda”.
