Mining sector in the focus of the Economic Forum between Kosovo and the United Arab Emirates

Prishtina, 16.01.2019 – Cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo and the United Arab Emirates and both countries’ chambers of commerce resulted in the economic forum between Kosovo and UAE, funded by the MFA of United Arab Emirates.

The Kosovo delegation, headed by Minister of Economic Development Valdrin Lluka, was received by the UAE Minister of Economy, Al Mansoori and executives of the UAE Federal Chamber of Commerce, to discuss on Kosovo’s economic potentials, with special focus on the mining sector.

In his opening remarks of the forum, Minister Lluka underlined reforms that Kosovo has undertaken in the previous years to improve the doing business environment, as reflected in the international reports, such as the World Bank Report, which rank Kosovo second in the region, after Macedonia.

Head of MED also emphasized that the geographic position and low operational costs make Kosovo even more attractive for businesses that aim to place their products in European Union markets, a 600 million consumer market to which Kosovo has unhindered and custom-free access.

Presentations of Kosovo potentials during this forum were also conducted by the Kosovo Investment and Enterprise Support Agency (KIESA), PPP Department of the Ministry of Finance and Vushtri Municipality.

In its conclusion, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and Sharjah Chamber of Commerce.

Part of the Kosovo delegation were also Minister of Innovations Besim Beqaj, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Rejhan Vuniqi, Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister Avni Arifi, President of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce Berat Rukiqi and Mayor of Vushtrri Xhafer Tahiri.
