Kosovo and Albania must intensify cooperation also in the ICT sector

Prishtina, 02.06.2016 – Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Besa Zogaj-Gashi, and her associates, visited Tirana and held a work meeting with the State Minister for Innovation and Public Administration, Milena Harito and Lorenc Bako, Advisor to the Minister for Information Technology and Communication.

Deputy Minister Besa Zogaj-Gashi informed Minister Harito on the initiative of the Ministry of Economic Development “Women in ICT” which aims to open doors to women for formal employment in ICT, as Kosovo listed the development of its digital economy as a top policy priority.

The WOW Project (Women in Online Work) was a topic of discussion, which is a project support by the World Bank, aiming to increase the participation of women, particularly those living outside urban areas, in online jobs, enabled by the information technology and communication. This project was launched in October 2015 and was successfully implemented.

She informed her interlocutors that this project benefited two municipalities, Gjakova and Lipjan, with women applicants of the 18-34 age group, who were previously tested for basic knowledge in computers, English, etc.

Zogaj-Gashi highlighted the great interest of women in this project, and the fact that some of them, after completing the training, found jobs in online platforms.

From her part, Minister Harito stated she was happy with the information received and proposed cooperation between the two countries to strengthen women through such a common project.

Deputy Minister Zogaj- Gashi and Minister Harito agreed to intensify both Governments commitments to enhance bilateral cooperation in ICT.
