Kosovo and Albania deepen mineral cooperation

Prishtina, 01.04.2016 – Deputy Minister of Economic Development Besa Zogaj-Gashi, met with Deputy Minister of Energy and Industry of Albania, Gëzim Musabelliu, and talked about intensifying cooperation between the two countries in the mining area.Deputy Minister Gashi informed her counterpart about the achievements as well as the commitment of the Government in the field of mining and geology.

“In the context of legal reform and completion of secondary legislation, the MED has foreseen investments to take place in the mining sector, precisely in scientific research capacities, which will contribute to the opening of new prospects in capacity building for exploitation,” said Zogaj- Gashi, stating that cooperation with Albania in this area is satisfactory and that the two Governments will intensify this cooperation.

According to her, support and encouragement of investors in the exploration and exploitation of these resources is a priority for the Government.

Talking about cooperation between the two in Geological Services, number two of the MED said this cooperation is already giving results.

“The excellent cooperation between the Geological Services of Kosovo, and Albania has led to the development of a project, which is in the interest of both institutions in order to bid in the project Horizont 2020, funded by the European Commission, which will be presented the European Commission on April 5″said Zogaj-Gashi.

On the other hand, Deputy Minister Gëzim Musabelliu, said cooperation in mining and geology between two countries is of great importance, and could help in the economic development of both countries.

“Both countries, Albania and Kosovo have mineral resources, and cooperation in this field would help the economies of both countries. We should also look into cooperation in regards to training new staff in both countries,” said Musabelliu.

Deputy Minister Gashi informed Mr. Musabelliu that the Government of Kosovo has already set up a Committee which will draft the law for Trepca, a process driven by the MED.
The two sides agreed to further intensify cooperation in the field of mining and geology.
