MED guarantees a professional assessment on the causes of explosion in KEK

Prishtina, 06.06.2014 – It was with deep sorrow that the Ministry of Economic Development received news of the explosion in the electrolysis department of Thermal Power Plant Kosova A, which unfortunately resulted in loss of life. MED expresses its solidarity with families of the casualties of this accident and wishes all injured personnel a speedy recovery.

Upon receiving information on this explosion, Minister Ismajli deployed to the site and followed the situation and measures undertaken by relevant institutions to assist the affected personnel.

Minister Ismajli also visited the injured staff members in KCUC, and attested to the fact that all but one of them were released for home treatment, with the one single case kept in the hospital being not in life danger. Moreover, he expressed his commiseration for the loss of workers and will continue to follow the situation with great attention.

MED confirms that there was a prompt reaction of police and firefighting forces, the Kosovo Security Force, Emergency Management Agency, and Centers for Family Healthcare and KCUC, whereas staff evacuation from all compartments of Unit A has been finalized and currently there are no open threats identified.

MED guarantees to ensure that a professional assessment of all causes of explosion is made, while underlining that any tendency to use the tragedy for any sort of benefits would be contrary to the basic principles of humanity and morality.
